Laem Sing is peaceful, with rarely anything more than sounds of laughter. However, there was a banana boat, desperately looking for clients it seems. The beach is populated for the most part by Thais, and other than the peaceful atmosphere and solitude, there is little of interest for tourists. But, if you want to get away from the touristy type of places, look no further than this beach. A few foreigners – farangs – venture to the beach just for that.
The notorious prison Khuk Khi Kai, just before Laem Sing beach, was built to hold Thais who were against the French occupation of Chanthaburi in 1893. A 7-meter high, square-shaped prison, it was built in bricks with each side measuring 4.40 meters. The walls were holed for ventilation. The porous roof is said to have been used as chicken coop through which the birds dropped their excrements to prisoners as one of the torture method.

Samed Ngam Shipyard is approximately 11 kilometres far from Mueng District of Chantaburi province. The area was assumed to be firstly used by King Taksin of Thonburi as a shipyard to prepare vehicles for the battle against Burmese Army in 2310 B.E. According to Chantanumat of the royal chronicle of Thonburi, King Taksin had 100 ships built in Chantaburi before moving the troops to battle against Burma. Moreover, numerous stumps of Iron Wood trees were found at the nearby Samed Ngam temple.
Chanthaburi's Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is the largest Catholic building in Thailand. With its two towers, it became the symbol of the city. It is the the fifth church built there. Inaugurated in 1909 with the installation of a huge bell in one of its towers, it was built during the nearly 10 years of French occupation of Chanthabun (now Chanthaburi). It has quite classic Gothic style. The cathedral stands on a small plaza where a statue of the Virgin Mary stands a few meters in front of the main entrance of the building.
